Join a practice-oriented discussion on the procedural and strategic challenges of arbitrations involving State entities, focusing on dispute management, enforcement of arbitral awards, and approaches to mitigating risks in complex public-sector disputes.

Objective

This ICC YAAF event in Dakar is organised ahead of the Francarbi Colloquium – Theme: Public Policy and International Arbitration (13–15 May 2026), a landmark regional event supported by ICC Dispute Resolution Services as an official partner.

International arbitration involving State entities presents distinct procedural and strategic considerations, particularly in disputes arising from infrastructure projects, investment contracts, and other public-sector engagements. These matters often involve complex interactions between arbitral proceedings and national legal systems, as well as heightened considerations around enforcement and public policy.

Drawing on practical experience, the panel will explore trends in State-involved arbitration, including evolving State practices, reform of investor–State dispute settlement, regulatory powers of States, consent and enforcement frameworks, and mechanisms supporting States in arbitral proceedings.

The session will provide participants with practical insights into current developments in this area, strengthening their ability to analyse and engage with complex arbitration matters involving State entities. It will also offer an opportunity to exchange perspectives and contribute to the development of a more informed and connected arbitration community.

Who should attend ?

This ICC YAAF event is aimed to young legal practitioners interested in Arbitration and ADR in general and wishing to interact with their peers. It will be also the occasion to develop a network of knowledge sharing and interaction between practitioners with rich and diverse experiences.

Free of charge; however, prior registration is required.
