The 11th edition of the annual ICC Asia Pacific Conference on International Arbitration will take place in Singapore on 26 June 2026! Mark your calendars for this flagship event in the Asia-Pacific region. Over two days, arbitrators, mediators, corporate counsel, lawyers, and business leaders will gather to network and exchange insights.

This year’s conference will explore key developments in arbitration and discuss the changes to the ICC Arbitration Rules, which will be released later this year. It will be held alongside an ICC Institute of World Business Law Advanced Training on Interest in international arbitration: how to get it right? Economic, legal and procedural considerations on 25 June 2026, offering participants a valuable opportunity to engage directly with representatives of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the ICC Institute of World Business Law.

Why attend?

Bringing more than 200 people together, the programme is designed to keep the discussion lively and interactive. With a debate, a mock session of the ICC Court, a focused session on asset tracing, and an exchange on the revised ICC Rules following their launch in June, the conference promises to be engaging and a wonderful opportunity not just to learn, but also to connect and reconnect with colleagues from across the region.

Who should attend?

  • Practising lawyers
  • Corporate counsel
  • Judges
  • Arbitrators
  • Mediators
  • Business professionals and academics from around the world

An introduction to interest – from an economic perspective

Interest in international arbitration is an important yet poorly understood topic. In this first session, participants will be introduced to the economic basis and rationale for awarding interest. Throughout the session, speakers will illustrate concepts using examples.

Legal basis for awarding interest

This session builds on the previous one. Once participants have understood the foundations of interest, it will be time to turn to the legal basis for awarding interest. In this session, participants will cover four topics, (i) legal authority for awarding interest, (ii) choice of rate of interest, (iii) period of interest – pre-and post-award interest, and (iv) simple v compound interest. In this session, speakers will adopt a comparatist approach to contrast approaches in different jurisdictions, and set out relevant considerations such as applicable law, mandatory v discretionary rules, and public policy considerations.

  • May Tai, Independent Arbitrator, China; Vice-President, ICC International Court of Arbitration; Member, ICC Institute of World Business Law
  • Foo Yuet Min

Practical and procedural issues: tips and potential pitfalls

In this final session, speakers will guide participants through practical and procedural issues and provide tips on how to navigate potential pitfalls. The topics covered will include the timing and format of submissions and calculations, how to work with evidence, and how to approach interest when drafting submissions and awards. The session will approach these issues from the perspective of what is expected of both counsel and tribunals.

Session 2: Asset recovery: the ultimate litmus test of arbitration

To date, asset tracking and recovery remain challenging aspects in the aftermath of an arbitration. There is a great deal of due diligence and investigation work in tracing and mapping out assets before they are recovered, especially in complex circumstances where the assets are in different jurisdictions or tax havens, parties are insolvent, or sovereign immunity applies. The panel will take stock of the most pertinent issues in asset recovery arising out of arbitration proceedings, discuss how they transpire in practice, and consider ways to maximise chances to attain successful asset recovery through early dispute strategy.

Session 3: Awarding costs: pitfalls and best practices in drafting costs decisions

Many awards struggle to articulate a clear and thorough approach for reaching decisions on costs by contrast to decisions on jurisdiction, liability and damages. What are the most common pitfalls that should be avoided, and what best practices should be considered to write better reasoned and more predictable cost allocation decisions? This two-part panel will start with a live mock session of the ICC Court scrutinizing a draft award on costs. Following the mock session, panellists will discuss modern practices, emerging trends, and an array of approaches to improve cost allocation decisions in international arbitration.
